American novelist Caroline
Lee Hentz. A Norherner by
birth and former friend of
Harriett Beecher Stowe, Mrs.
Hentz wrote a widely-read
rebuttal to Mrs. Stow's Uncle
Tom's Cabin. One of her
son's, Thaddeus Hentz, was
wounded in the battle while
fighting near his mother's
grave.
